Spring Ephemeral Hike

đź“… Dates: Sunday, May 10th 2026 11:30am-1pm

📍 Location: Cornell, WI & Camp Nawakwa

Come join a Beaver Creek Reserve naturalist for a Mother’s Day hike through the woods to look for signs of spring! We will be searching for and learning about spring flora. This program will take place at Our Nawakwa in New Auburn, where we will have access to beautiful northern woods and a glacial lake, and be able to hike a section of the ice age trail. 

The trail will be easy to moderately difficult. Please bring water and hiking boots. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to share with the mothers in your life, or any accompanying family and friends, on Our Nawakwa’s grounds after the hike!

Ages: 14+ (Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult)
Cost: BCR Members $8 and Non-members $10
Location: Our Nawakwa
Register by: Tuesday, May 5 | Walk-ins will not be accepted.

Outdoor Education for Youth Leaders

đź“… Dates: Saturday, May 16th 2026 10am-3pm

📍 Location: Cornell, WI & Camp Nawakwa

Looking to expand your teaching techniques in outdoor skills?
Join us for a fun-filled, hands-on training in outdoor education basics.
We will share methods for teaching kids age-appropriate outdoor skills, including basic knot tying, jackknife and bow saw use, fire building, simple meal preparation and clean up methods, as well as other fun outdoor activities – all with an emphasis on safety and incorporating Leave No Trace principles.

Perfect for any interested adult who serves as a youth group volunteer; this training also meets GSNWGL requirements for Certification in Outdoor Education.

$15 includes lunch and course materials.

Bat Talks & Night Hikes

đź“… Dates: Saturday, May 30th 2026 8:15PM-10:15PM

📍 Location: Cornell, WI & Camp Nawakwa

🦇 Citizen Scientists Welcome!
Join us for an evening of bats, science, and night hiking at Camp Nawakwa! We’ll begin with a short bat talk, gather by the bat houses at sunset, and then head out on a guided bat monitoring hike around the lake.

Schedule:

Bat Talk at 8:15pm on the flat.  

Sunset by the Bat Houses at 8:42pm.  

Bat Monitoring Hike around the lake at 9:15pm. 

What to Bring:

• Headlamp or flashlight (required)

• Red lights highly preferred

• Dress appropriately for a night hike

Good to Know:
• Weather contingent

• Bats do not emerge in the rain

• Family‑friendly and curiosity encouraged
